I recently purchased a license upgrade from Trados Studio 2011 to Trados Studio 2014. That included Trados Studio 2015 when that upgrade was released. Now 2015 has also been released, and I suddenly had a lot of Trados versions on my computer.
In a fit of cleaning frenzy, I started uninstalling the versions from 2011 and 2014. It wasn’t entirely easy, because when I had uninstalled 2014, I couldn’t find 2011 among the programs on Control panel – Programs and functions. I’m not entirely sure what hepled in the end, but after quite a bit of messing with it, re-installing and uninstalling, the 2011 version also showed up under Programs and functions, and I could finally uninstall both versions.
But now the file associations had disappeared for Trados Studio 2015. That is, I couldn’t just click an sdlxliff file to open it in Trados. I had to first open Trados, and then find the file.
I tried right clicking the sdlxliff file and choose standard program for opening the file, but that didn’t work either.
The solution? The same as always: uninstall and re-install. It was reasonably easy and the program actually rememebered my settings and the projects I had worked on, which was nice.
Speaking of upgrades, I usually buy every other version. You often don’t need to buy every new version that is released. Every other is usually enough.
